Dear Ms Ramsay
Thank you for your petition entitled “scrapping of charges for residential parking permits” submitted on the Council’s ePetition platform.
Firstly, my apologies for not responding to you sooner.
I have to advise you that your petition is not one that can be considered by the Petitions Committee at this time.
Normally, before a Petition would be accepted, it would have already been through the Council’s complaints process or have been the subject of correspondence with the relevant Council Resource.
I have attached a link to the complaints process below for your information.

The proposal to implement a £10 charge for residents’ parking permits formed part of the Council’s savings proposals in 2021. These proposals were fully considered by members and, at a meeting of the full Council on 24 February 2021, it was agreed that a charge of £10 would be implemented for residents’ parking permits for the next 2 years. This fee helps to cover the administration cost to the Council for producing the permits for residents.
In terms of the Council’s Standing Orders, namely Standing Order No 17, a decision cannot be changed with 6 months unless there has been a material change of circumstances.
You can, of course, come back once that 6 month period has expired provided that you have addressed the matter through the Council’s complaints procedure or through correspondence with the relevant Council Resource, in this case Community and Enterprise Resources.
I appreciate that this is not the response that you were hoping for but I trust that the information is of assistance to you.
Kind Regards
